Line Up by Ian Stephenson

line up CD front cover

My friend Ian Stephenson have finally finished his solo album “Line Up” that has been eight years in the making. I met Ian when I went to Newcastle in 2006 and I recorded some soprano sax on a jazzy polska he had written. Well, that track “Coming Home” is included. The music on the CD is based in Celtic folk with lots of Scandinavian influences. You can get it here on Ian’s site.

First gig with Fred Kinbom

I met up with the amazingly talented slide guitarist Fred Kinbom last Sunday and 5 days later we did our first gig. Not the last I hope. The magic was instant! We played at the Moulettes release party in Brighton and were joined by Matthew Gest on accordion and Olli Austin on drums. All of the night was great, with an incredible puppet show, Liz Green‘s marvelous voice and of course heavy medieval acoustic folk rock with the Moulettes. A bit of our show was filmed and here’s a treat for you all:

Maria McAteer slow release

I’m currently working on a slow release of singer Maria McAteer through singles on CD Baby. What I mean by slow release is that we will release the album one song at a time instead of putting it all out in one go. It all ties together with videos on YouTube as well. So far two songs have been released for purchase and three videos are up on YouTube.

Brighton sings Justin Bieber’s “Baby”!

Or rather, Brighton mimes to Maria McAteer’s voice and my piano playing. We felt it was time to do a cover and played around a bit with Justin Bieber’s song “Baby”. What we came up with is quite different from the original. So, what to do for a video. Well, we wet down to the Meeting Place and asked people passing by if they’d like to mime a phrase from the song. They were wonderful. All different sorts agreed to do it. 3 hours later we had the fifty lines and just needed to add them together and sync them to the track. A few more hours (the rest of the night actually) was spent pasting in and time stretching clips and we had something. It’s up on YouTube, have a look and a listen!

Lele Lele on Spotify

I’ve been waiting over a year but finally it’s there. There were some technical issues behind the delay but now you can enjoy the debut album of Lele Lele in it’s full glory if you have Spotify. If you don’t you just have to get it from CD Baby or iTunes. The band is touring Finland and Sweden this summer but since I’m not in the country I won’t be joining. I wish them the best of luck and please try to see them if you’re anywhere near. It’s a unique experience! Check tour dates and info at lele-lele.se

Back from Brazil

The tour of Brazil is over and it was amazing. Thank you so much to everyone for all of their hard work and to all the fans who came and saw us. When we played at Virada Cultural in São Paulo they say 75 000 people listened! That’s so far the biggest gig of my life. Now it’s back to a smaller scale but with music that lies very near to my heart, namely “Her Father’s Daughter”. I hope to see you at Bradshaw’s basement in Brighton 11 June.

Flamencophone on jazzradio.com

We got this mail:

To Nybakat:

We added one of your tracks to JAZZRADIO.com. “Flamencophone” is playing on our Straight-Ahead channel. Check it out at www.jazzradio.com.

So now I’ll have to listen to this station for hours just to hear my own song being played. Actually, I’m really pleased about this. This tune is dedicated to my flamenco dancing grandmother Barbro and even though I know she would say that it’s not really flamenco I’m sure she’d be really happy too.
